This book is intended primarily for parents but will also be of interest to teachers and related professionals. The book addresses both practical and theoretical issues related to the development and education of deaf children. It considers these areas largely from a sign bilingual perspective.
Pamela Knight and Ruth Swanwick are both qualified teachers of the deaf and lecturers in the School of Education at the University of Leeds where they are involved in all areas of teacher education including the training of teachers of the deaf. The focus of Ruth Swanwick’s experience and research is deaf children who require access to both sign language and English for their education. Pamela Knight’s areas of research has been with the families of young deaf children and with their early experiences in school.;
